The new Commerce 7–10 Syllabus (2024) is to be implemented from 2027 and will replace the Commerce 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2025 and 2026 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2027 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

The types of businesses in the tourism industry
The contribution of tourism to the economy
The factors that influence choosing a travel destination
The different planning options when organising travel
The advantages and disadvantages of different means of travel
The importance of official documents and travel insurance
The factors to consider when developing an itinerary
Consideration of travel advice provided by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and travel reviews
Possible financial issues that may occur when travelling
Potential legal concerns in different countries
Potential issues due to cultural differences and the importance of culturally sensitive behaviour
Strategies to deal with travel-related problems
Assistance for travellers, including the roles of embassies, high commissions, consulates and airlines
Investigate a current issue in relation to the travel consumer and communicate findings using relevant subject-specific terminology in written, oral, visual or multimodal form
Create written texts to explain and analyse aspects of being a travel consumer
