Life Skills

Life Skills for Stage 6

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Music of the last 25 years (Australian focus)

Students perform, create, listen and respond to selected repertoire to explore the cultural, artistic and technological developments in contemporary musical practice. They explore how advancements in technology, including communication, recording, production and digital distribution, have influenced the way music has been created, composed, performed and shared over the last 25 years. They explore how musical tools and technologies have led to innovation in music.

Music context and Elements of music should be integrated with this focus area as appropriate to the needs, abilities and prior learning of students.

Performing
  • Experiment with contemporary performance techniques

  • Perform using digital techniques or textural devices

  • Use tools or technologies to enhance a musical performance

Listening and responding
  • Engage with live and/or recorded music from the last 25 years

  • Explore ideas and messages communicated through song lyrics

  • Explore how technology can be used to document music

Creating and composing
  • Experiment with tools or technologies to generate sounds

  • Identify tools and technologies that can be used to create and/or share compositions

  • Participate in creating lyrics that reflect an aspect of Australia

  • Experiment with contemporary composition techniques

Safe and ethical practices
  • Demonstrate safe practices when listening and responding, creating and composing or performing music

  • Demonstrate hygiene protocols when sharing instruments and resources

  • Demonstrate respectful and cooperative behaviours when working with others

  • Demonstrate appropriate protocols when engaging with live or online music

  • Acknowledge composers, arrangers and/or collaborators when performing, creating or composing pieces of music
