The new Dance 11–12 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2027 and will replace the Dance Stage 6 Syllabus (2009).

Year 12

In Performance students synthesise knowledge and skills in the components of performance specific to context. Students demonstrate the roles and responsibilities of the performer, the use of the components of performance and the skills to adapt and demonstrate them to communicate the intent in contrasting dance works. Students demonstrate dance technique, kinaesthetic awareness, elements of dance, auditory elements, structure and interpretation as the components of performance.
Demonstrate conventions, protocols and responsibilities, including safe dance practices when preparing the body to perform dance works
Explain how context influences the choice of auditory elements, the intent and the application of the components of performance in dance works
Use the language of dance performance in the context of the dance works being performed to describe the intent, technique, style and interpretation
Analyse the relationship between context, intent, interpretation, style, dance technique and kinaesthetic awareness in the performance of contrasting dance works
Explain the function of the components of performance in dance works
Explain the relationship between the application of the components of performance and the characteristics of dance styles
Use auditory elements to refine the interpretation and communication in dance works
Demonstrate the relationship between dance technique, kinaesthetic awareness and the communication of the intent and style
Manipulate the elements of dance to communicate the intent and demonstrate stylistic characteristics
Identify the structure of the dance work and use it to refine the performer’s communication and interpretation of the intent
Manipulate the components of performance to communicate the intent in contrasting dance works
Analyse how the components of performance have been manipulated to communicate the intent in contrasting dance works
Compare the use of the components of performance in contrasting dance works relative to context
Reflect critically on the use of the components of performance in order to refine the communication of the intent in contrasting dance works
