The new Dance 11–12 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2027 and will replace the Dance Stage 6 Syllabus (2009).

Year 12
- DA-12C-01
analyses information about a practitioner to inform the choreography of a dance work
- DA-12C-02
choreographs a dance work in a personal style using the components of choreography to communicate the intent
- DA-12C-03
evaluates the use of the components of choreography and choreographic process to communicate the intent
In Choreography students synthesise, adapt and apply the components of choreography to communicate the intent in a choreographed dance work. Students demonstrate the roles, ethics, protocols and responsibilities of the choreographer. They define the relationship between research, stimulus and intent, and demonstrate the application of the components of choreography. Students use stimulus, idea, intent, elements of dance, auditory elements, abstract symbolic movement and structure as the components of choreography to choreograph a dance work.
Apply the ethics and conventions of choreographic practice when choreographing a dance work
Apply the ethics and responsibilities associated with using professional dance works as the stimulus for new creative work
Explain the possibilities and limitations of communication through dance and the dancing body
Explain how context has informed the idea, intent and choice of auditory elements in a choreographed work
Use the language of choreography in the context of a choreographed work
Use the components of choreography relative to context to communicate the intent in a dance work
Explain how the study of a prescribed dance practitioner has provided the stimulus for the development of a choreographic work
Use the stimulus provided by research to develop the idea and intent for the choreographed dance work
Explain the selection of the accompaniment for the choreographed work and its relationship to the idea and intent
Generate abstract symbolic movements using auditory elements and the elements of dance to communicate the intent
Explain the link between the structure of the auditory elements and the structure of the dance work
Use the components of choreography to choreograph a dance work in a personal style
Analyse how the components of choreography have been used to communicate the intent in a choreographed dance work
Reflect critically on the use of the components of choreography in order to refine the communication of the intent in a choreographed dance work
