Choreography

In Choreography students synthesise, adapt and apply the components of choreography to communicate the intent in a choreographed dance work. Students demonstrate the roles, ethics, protocols and responsibilities of the choreographer. They define the relationship between research, stimulus and intent, and demonstrate the application of the components of choreography. Students use stimulus, idea, intent, elements of dance, auditory elements, abstract symbolic movement and structure as the components of choreography to choreograph a dance work.

Context
  • Apply the ethics and conventions of choreographic practice when choreographing a dance work

  • Apply the ethics and responsibilities associated with using professional dance works as the stimulus for new creative work

  • Explain the possibilities and limitations of communication through dance and the dancing body

  • Explain how context has informed the idea, intent and choice of auditory elements in a choreographed work

  • Use the language of choreography in the context of a choreographed work

  • Use the components of choreography relative to context to communicate the intent in a dance work

Components of choreography
  • Explain how the study of a prescribed dance practitioner has provided the stimulus for the development of a choreographic work

  • Use the stimulus provided by research to develop the idea and intent for the choreographed dance work

  • Explain the selection of the accompaniment for the choreographed work and its relationship to the idea and intent

  • Generate abstract symbolic movements using auditory elements and the elements of dance to communicate the intent

  • Explain the link between the structure of the auditory elements and the structure of the dance work

  • Use the components of choreography to choreograph a dance work in a personal style

  • Analyse how the components of choreography have been used to communicate the intent in a choreographed dance work

  • Reflect critically on the use of the components of choreography in order to refine the communication of the intent in a choreographed dance work
