The new Dance 11–12 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2027 and will replace the Dance Stage 6 Syllabus (2009).
2026
- Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2027, Term 1
- Start teaching the new syllabus for Year 11
- Start implementing new Year 11 school-based assessment requirements
- Continue to teach the Dance Stage 6 Syllabus (2009) for Year 12
2027, Term 4
- Start teaching the new syllabus for Year 12
- Start implementing new Year 12 school-based assessment requirements
2028
- First HSC examination for new syllabus
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
In Performance: Dance work, students apply performance knowledge and skills to a solo or group dance work, drawing on the components of performance. Students demonstrate dance technique, kinaesthetic awareness, elements of dance, auditory elements, structure and interpretation.
Choose a preferred dance genre or style
Identify the context and/or interpretation for a dance work
Demonstrate safety considerations when participating in performing a dance work
Demonstrate cultural considerations when participating in performing a dance work
Train and prepare the body for performance
Perform using the elements of dance
Respond to different auditory elements when performing
Demonstrate increasingly complex combinations of body skills relative to anatomical structure
Participate in performing a structured dance work
