Mathematics Advanced 11–12 (2024): Minor amendment – content point updated

Updated

  • Content point updated to remove a typographical error.
Found in: Year 11, Working with functions (Algebraic techniques): Content ‘Identify a conjugate of a±b, and rationalise the denominators of expressions of the form ab±c and a±db±c, where a, b, c and d are positive rational numbers'.

Updated

  • Content point updated to include ‘differentiable’ in relation to the functions for consistency.
Found in: Year 11, Introduction to differentiation (Calculations with the derivative): Content ‘Apply the quotient rule: if y=uv, where u and v are both differentiable functions of x, then dydx=vdudx-udvdxv2 or if hx=fxgx then h'x=gxf'x-fxg'x[gx]2

Updated

  • Content group heading updated to replace ‘curve sketching’ with ‘graphing’ to align with syllabus content.
Found in: Year 12, Loading  (Loading ).
Stage 6
Mathematics Extension 1 11–12 (2024): Minor amendment – content point updated

Updated

  • Content point updated to remove a typographical error.
Found in: Year 11, Polynomials (Sums and products of zeroes of polynomials): Content ‘Prove that if a quartic Px=ax4+bx3+cx2+dx+e has four zeroes α, β, γ, δ then α+β+γ+δ=-ba, αβ+αγ+αδ+βγ+βδ+γδ=ca, αβγ+βγδ+γδα+δαβ=-da and αβγδ=ea
Stage 6
Mathematics Extension 2 11–12 (2024): Minor amendment – content point updated

Updated

Updated

  • Content point updated to amend the description of displacement.
Found in: Year 12, Applications of calculus to mechanics (Simple harmonic motion): Content ‘Define simple harmonic motion as motion in which acceleration is proportional to, and in the opposite direction to, displacement, that is x¨=-n2x-c, where x-c is the displacement of a particle from the centre of motion at c and x¨ is the acceleration’.

Updated

  • Content point updated to clarify solutions for simple harmonic motion.
Found in: Year 12, Applications of calculus to mechanics (Simple harmonic motion): Content ‘Verify that x=Asinnt+α+c is a solution  to the differential equation for simple harmonic motion, equivalently expressed as x=Acosnt+β+c, or x=Csinnt+Dcosnt+c'.

Updated

  • Content point updated for clarity.
Found in: Year 12, Loading  (Loading ): Content ‘Analyse and solve problems relating to motion on a smooth inclined plane by resolving forces into components’.
Stage 6
Mathematics Extension 2 11–12 (2024): Minor amendment – glossary definition

Updated

  • Glossary definition ‘implication’ updated for accuracy.
Found in: Stage 6 glossary: Implication: A relationship between two propositions where the second is a direct consequence of the first. A statement in the form ‘If P then Q', or 'P implies Q', represented as PQ or PQ.

Updated

  • Glossary definition ‘converse’ updated for accuracy.
Found in: Stage 6 glossary: Converse: The converse of a statement ‘If P then Q' is 'If Q then P'. Extended in Mathematics Extension 2: The converse of PQ is QP or PQ. For example, the converse of Pythagoras’ theorem is that if the sum of the squares of 2 sides of a triangle is equal to the square of the third side, then the triangle is right-angled.

Updated

  • Image for syllabus example updated for accuracy.
Found in: Loading  (Loading ): Content ‘Use a spreadsheet to model and solve problems involving a reducing balance loan in a variety of contexts’.

Updated

  • The example image and long description updated to show earliest and latest event times.
Found in: Loading : Content ‘Analyse ESTs and LSTs to locate the critical path(s) for the project’.

Updated

  • Image for syllabus example updated for accuracy.
