The new Food Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Food Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

Investigate how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples share Knowledges about food and sustainable Practices
Discuss the Cultural significance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ customary food Practices
Describe historical influences on Australian food practices, including introduced foods, the development of agriculture and the role of migration
Explain how changes in Australian society, including the nature and patterns of work, influence food selection, preparation and production
Investigate technological advances that have influenced food preparation, production and preservation methods over time
Examine how emerging technologies and appliance trends support diverse food preparation and sustainable practices
Use data to assess how and why Australian food consumption patterns have changed over time
Investigate how customary, historical and contemporary practices can be combined to create new and innovative Australian foods
Identify and apply safe and hygienic food preparation practices
Design and create meals with customary ingredients used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in contemporary food practices
Plan and safely prepare nutritious food using customary, historical and contemporary practices
Explore the significance of food in diverse cultures around the world
Identify ingredients, tools and techniques used by diverse cultures for food preparation
Investigate food customs and practices of a specific culture
Describe how food customs, celebrations and festivals may influence food availability in Australia
Examine current food trends that reflect cultural diversity within Australian communities
