- Continue to teach the Modern History Stage 6 Syllabus (2017) for Year 12
2027, Term 4
- Start teaching new syllabuses for Year 12
- Start implementing new Year 12 school-based assessment requirements

- First HSC examination for new syllabus
Content
Year 12
Students investigate key features of the history of ONE of the following options, focusing on political and social change, and the role of individuals and groups.
The historical concepts and skills content is to be integrated as appropriate.
- The Nuclear Age 1945–2021
- Civil rights in the United States 1945–1972
- The Anti-Apartheid Movement in South Africa 1948–1994
- The struggle for democracy in Burma 1948–2021
- From the Cultural Revolution to Tiananmen Square 1966–1989
- The changing world order 1989–2016
The significance of Aung San in the creation of an independent Burma
Challenges facing the new democratic government from 1948 to 1958
Military opposition to new democratic government and the coup of 1962
The role of nationalism in the reign of Ne Win
The aims of the ‘Burmese Way to Socialism’
The role of the Tatmadaw in the military state
The reasons for and impact of the 8888 Uprising
The formation and role of the State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC)
The significance of the 1990 general election, including the rise of the National League for Democracy (NLD) and the house arrest of Aung San Suu Kyi
The continuing role of army leadership in Burma/Myanmar, including the role of General Than Shwe and General Khin Nyunt
Ethnic tensions and separatist uprisings
The role of religion in the Burmese state
Successes and failures of the National League for Democracy
