Life Skills for Stage 6

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Investigating modern history – The nature of modern history

Students may investigate one or more of the following options, part of an option or elements of the content as appropriate. Content from the options can also be combined for an integrated study or combined with any of the case studies.

  • The investigation of historic sites and sources
  • The contestability of the past
  • The construction of modern histories
  • The representation and commemoration of the past

  • Places where historians can find sources to investigate the past

  • Use sources to develop an understanding of people, places and events of the past

  • Use sources to understand the history of a familiar site

  • Use sources to ask and answer questions about the past

  • Issues associated with reconstructing the past through modern written texts

  • Make comparisons between the past and the present
