The new Law and the Community Life Skills 11–12 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2027 and will replace the Citizenship and Legal Studies Life Skills Stage 6 Syllabus (2010).

- Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2027, Term 1
- Start teaching the new syllabus for Year 11
- Continue to teach the Citizenship and Legal Studies Life Skills Stage 6 Syllabus (2010) for Year 12
2027, Term 4
- Start teaching the new syllabus for Year 12
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Relevant themes and skills should be integrated with each focus area based on the strengths and needs of individual students.
Relationship between law, justice and society
Development of law as a reflection of society’s values
Effectiveness of legal and non-legal measures in achieving justice for individuals, groups and society
Locate and identify relevant sources
Recognise different perspectives of individuals and groups in society
Access online information safely and responsibly
Distinguish between fact and opinion
Use a range of sources to make informed decisions
Recognise the purpose of rules and laws
Ask questions about laws to determine if they are fair or useful
Recognise different experiences of the law
Make informed decisions based on rules and laws
Identify where to find information and data
Gather a range of relevant information and data
Use evidence from a range of sources
Communicate findings in forms appropriate to the purpose and audience
Identify ways the law responds to events, the media, outdated laws, changes in values or developments in technology
Make judgements about the effectiveness of the law using criteria such as the:
- accessibility of the law
- availability of resources
- capacity to meet the needs of individuals, groups and the community
- protection of individual rights
