The new Commerce 7–10 Syllabus (2024) is to be implemented from 2027.
2025 and 2026 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2027 – Start teaching new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Stage 5
Teachers select options from:
- Our economy
- Running a business
- Promoting and selling
- Investing
- Law in action
- Political and community involvement
- The travel consumer
- Towards independence
- School-developed option.
The school-developed option enables teachers to guide students to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills related to a particular area of student interest.
The school-developed option should cover a particular area of interest not studied through other core focus areas or options.
The content selected for the school-developed option must not overlap or duplicate content from Stage 6 syllabuses for:
- Business Studies
- Economics
- Legal Studies.
Only one school-developed option can be studied within a 100-hour or 200-hour course.
Determine the specific area of interest related to relevant syllabus outcomes
Identify relevant information sources to investigate the specific area of interest
Locate relevant information from primary and/or secondary sources
Select information relevant to the investigation
Use appropriate strategies to process and analyse the information collected
Develop a plan to present the information researched
Select and use appropriate written, oral, visual or multimodal forms to communicate the research findings using relevant subject-specific terminology
Create written texts to explain and analyse aspects of the specific area of interest
