The new Geography 11–12 Syllabus (2022) is to be implemented from 2024.
2024, Term 1
- Start teaching new syllabus for Year 11
- Start implementing new Year 11 school-based assessment requirements
- Continue to teach the Geography Stage 6 Syllabus (2009) for Year 12
2024, Term 4
- Start teaching new syllabus for Year 12
- Start implementing new Year 12 school-based assessment requirements
2025
- First HSC examination for new syllabus
Content
Year 11
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Identify a geographical issue in a place or environment
Develop one or more questions related to the geographical issue
Identify relevant geographical tools and skills to undertake the investigation
Plan steps for an investigation
Collect primary geographical data in the field
Gather geographical information from secondary sources
Record findings from fieldwork
Recognise the usefulness of data and information to answer a question about a geographical issue
Represent data and information in appropriate formats
Interpret data and information
Analyse findings and results
Draw conclusions about findings and/or results
Consider a range of perspectives
Identify challenges and/or opportunities presented by the geographical issue
Suggest possible actions and/or outcomes
Propose appropriate action or response
Use appropriate geographical terms and concepts to communicate information
Communicate findings and conclusions about a geographical issue, including proposed actions
Reflect on the findings of the investigation, what has been learnt, and the process and effectiveness of the inquiry
