Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
As part of this focus area, teachers may choose for students to undertake an individual, collaborative or class investigation of a selected ecosystem. The ecosystem chosen may be local, national or global. Students may complete a whole investigation, part of an investigation or selected aspects of the investigation. This may also include conducting fieldwork.
Teachers may choose an appropriate ecosystem for investigation.
Identify features of ecosystems that have intrinsic value
Explore functions within ecosystems
Collect and record evidence of biodiversity within an ecosystem
Locate places globally with significant evidence of biodiversity
Identify risks and challenges to the biodiversity of the ecosystem
Explore management and sustainability practices for ecosystems
Identify customary Aboriginal land-management practices
Identify loss of biodiversity in a local area
Identify reasons for loss of biodiversity
Explore actions, practices and programs that promote sustainable management to prevent loss of biodiversity
Develop an action, practice or program to promote sustainable management of a local area
Assess the effectiveness of an action, practice or program to promote sustainable management in a local area
Select an ecosystem to study
Collect and record geographical information about a chosen ecosystem
Communicate some information about a chosen ecosystem
Propose sustainable management strategies for the chosen ecosystem
