Life Skills

Life Skills for Stage 6

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Historical concepts and skills

The following skills should be integrated with the course content. These skills provide opportunities to engage with the concepts of causation, continuity and change, perspectives, significance and contestability.

Time and chronology
  • Recognise the passage of time in daily life

  • Use the language of time

  • Recognise how time is measured

  • Compare chronological time to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ perspectives of time

  • Use the language of time in a range of contexts

  • Use chronology to order people, places, changes and events from the past

Analysis and use of sources
  • Access a variety of sources

  • Identify different types of sources

  • Indicate the origins of sources

  • Identify the main ideas of sources

  • Identify the purpose of sources

  • Locate, select and organise a range of sources that are records of personal history

  • Identify relevant information from a range of sources

  • Organise information from sources

  • Use sources to identify perspectives of individuals or groups in the past

  • Recognise the usefulness of sources to understand the past

  • Make observations about the usefulness and reliability of sources

Historical interpretation
  • Recognise that the past is different to the present

  • Make connections between people, places and events from the past and their own life

  • Identify examples of continuity and change in their own life and the past

  • Recognise the causes of events or developments in the past

  • Recognise the effects of events or developments in the past

  • Access historical ideas and representations

  • Compare different historical ideas and representations
