Contemporary possibilities

Students develop an understanding of the creative possibilities of storytelling in evolving technologies and new modes of communication. Students engage in a detailed study of ONE complex multimodal text and a range of other texts. Students develop an understanding of the power of storytelling to represent ideas, people and events in innovative ways. They explore how these representations are shaped by aspects of culture, context and experience. Students analyse a range of language forms and features related to textual hybridity, reading pathways, interactivity and intertextuality. They appreciate the complex nature of communicating in a contemporary world and the limitations and possibilities of storytelling in a range of modes and mediums.

Understanding
  • The language features, text structures and stylistic choices that influence narratives from a range of modes and mediums, including digital texts

  • The ways different mediums and technologies shape meaning and influence storytelling

  • The ways composers transform and adapt texts for different contexts, purposes and audiences, including appropriations in popular culture

  • The impact of intertextuality on purpose, audience and content

  • The values and assumptions that are represented and communicated in texts from emerging modes and mediums

Responding
  • Experiment with text structures and language features related to specific genres and modes and mediums

  • Compose logical, ordered and cohesive texts that build effective arguments in response to the ideas generated through texts

  • Compose critical and creative texts that reflect particular values and perspectives, including their own

  • Compose texts that reflect on the processes of composition in different mediums and technologies

  • Use different processes and technologies to generate, investigate, clarify, organise, refine and present information and ideas
